For our October Session, Allison Charalambous from Brilliant Earth will share her recent trip to Madre de Dios, Peru where she visited the first 4 mines in the Amazon to become Fairmined Certified. Despite the well-publicized and studied obstacles in Madre de Dios, unfortunately, made famous for deforestation caused by mining and mercury use, Abel 3, Fátima, El Príncipe Azul 1, and Linda 2 of AMATAF achieved their Fairmined certification in 2023 with the help of a grant from Brilliant Earth to Pure Earth.
Bringing her deep experience in mine-to-market programs, Cristina Villegas, Director of Sustainable Jewelry at Pact, will host a Q&A about Madre de Dios, AMATAF, the Fairmined Certification, Brilliant Earth’s grant to Pure Earth, and the Brilliant Earth Fairmined collection.
